Curriculum

At Merriott Primary School, our vision of Learning and Growing Together is at the heart of our curriculum. We believe that every child deserves a rich, engaging and ambitious education that enables them to flourish academically, socially and emotionally whilst developing the knowledge, skills and values needed for the future.

Our curriculum is carefully designed to inspire curiosity, promote a love of learning and ensure that all children can achieve their personal best. Through high-quality teaching, memorable experiences and meaningful opportunities to apply learning, we help children become confident, resilient and independent learners.

Our Curriculum Intent

 We aim to provide a curriculum that:

• Develops secure knowledge and skills across all subjects.
• Encourages children to think critically and creatively.
• Builds confidence, independence and resilience.
• Reflects the needs of our local community whilst broadening children's horizons.
• Promotes respect, responsibility and active citizenship.
• Prepares children for future learning and life beyond primary school.

Our curriculum is underpinned by the National Curriculum and enriched through wider experiences, educational visits, outdoor learning, sporting opportunities, visitors and community partnerships.

Quantock Education Trust Curriculum Principles (SMART)

As part of the Quantock Education Trust, our curriculum is underpinned by the Trust's SMART curriculum principles which guide the design, implementation and review of learning across all schools within the Trust.

• A strong and carefully Sequenced curriculum, so that children and young people’s learning progresses in a way that builds knowledge intentionally and cumulatively
• A curriculum that Motivates children and young people so they can value and experience joy in learning whilst developing their own unique voice.
• An Ambitious curriculum, so that children and young people are challenged and empowered to think deeply and critically and grapple with complexity, challenge assumptions, question accepted authorities and embrace curiosity.
