WELCOME TO CODLIN CLASS

In Codlin Class, we are excited to welcome you to years three and four as you begin your adventure in lower key stage two. This year, the year fours will be building on the skills and knowledge they developed in year three while becoming increasingly independent and confident learners. The year threes will be embracing new challenges as they begin key stage two, developing their skills, confidence and independence along the way.

We encourage all children to approach their learning with curiosity, resilience and a positive attitude. We will work hard to challenge ourselves, support one another and take pride in producing work of a high quality. Together, we will create a classroom where kindness, hard work and a love of learning are at the heart of everything we do.

Throughout the year, we will be developing lots of exciting skills, including becoming:

• Fluent readers who can use evidence from texts to answer in-depth questions.
• Efficient mathematicians who can apply strategies quickly and accurately.
• Ambitious writers who use adventurous vocabulary and include the features needed for different genres.

Our day:

Mornings generally consist of English and Maths lessons, broken into different focus areas such as spelling, grammar and punctuation, reading comprehension and writing. For Maths, there will be an arithmetic and times tables focus at the start of our maths lessons.

Morning Break: 10:30 – 10:45

Lunchtime: 12:15 – 13:15

Afternoon sessions comprise one or two foundation subjects such as art, music, French, RE, geography, history, PE, PSHE, DT or science.

Homework & Reading:

Homework sent: Tuesday

Due: following Tuesday

In Codlin class, homework will consist of a variety of activities designed to reinforce and extend learning in the classroom. Each week, children will receive either a SPaG task or an arithmetic challenge, and a times table task, alongside their regular reading.

The children will do their times table practice on timestables.co.uk, for which they each have an individual login, with tasks set each week. This login can be found in their reading records.

There will also be an extended homework activity from time to time, linked to the topic the children are learning each half term. These activities provide opportunities for children to explore their learning creatively and develop their independence.

Reading: Minimum 4 times per week – please record in reading logs. Children will be rewarded for their consistent reading, with prizes every half-term.

PE

 Children will have PE on the following days:

• Monday (Outdoors - games)
• Wednesday (Indoors – skills)

Please ensure children come prepared with their PE kit on their allocated day.

Daily Essentials

• Water bottle
• Reading book & log
• Healthy snack
• PE kit (on PE days)
• Coat (weather dependent)

Children will need a water bottle and a healthy snack every day.
