Welcome to Year 4

In Year 4 we are independent, conscientious learners who try their best always. We strive to challenge ourselves and support each other to create a positive classroom culture of hard work and kindness.

We learn through exciting opportunities and discussions and we focus on ensuring our work is of a high quality and throughly checked. We will work hard to support each other in our learning and to be the best we can be in our work and play.

In year 4, we will be building on the skills and knowledge we learnt last year to become:

fluent readers who can use evidence from the texts to answer indepth questions,
effcient mathematicians who apply strategies quickly and accurately,
ambitious writers who include amazing vocabularly and all the features needed for specific genres

Our day

Mornings generally consist of English and Maths lessons broken into different focus areas e.g. spelling; grammar and punctuation; reading comprehension and writing for English. For maths, there will be an arithmetic focus session as well as a longer maths lesson following the NCETM overview.

Morning Break: 10:30 – 10:45

Lunchtime: 12:15 – 13:15

Afternoon sessions comprise of one or two foundation subjects such as art, music, French, RE, geography, history, PE, PSHE, DT or science.

Homework & Reading

Homework Sent: Monday

Due: Following Monday

Darlington Class will receive their homework on Mondays, to be returned on the following Monday. Each piece of homework will include a SpaG task, a times table task and a minimum of 4 reads a week. There will also be an extended homework task which children can take part in, linked to a topic they are learning each half term.
